5th Sino-Italian Symposium on Bioactive Natural Products & 7th Yangtze River Delta International Symposium on Marine Drugs commenced during 30th to 31st October in Zhejiang University of Technology. This symposium is sponsored by Natural Science Foundation of China, Zhejiang Pharmaceutical Association, Shanghai Pharmaceutical Association, Jiangsu Pharmaceutical Association, Zhejiang University of Technology, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica Chinese Academy of Sciences, Università degli studi di Napoli Federico II, and Università del Piemonte orientale “Amedeo Avogadro” Vercelli, and hosted by College of Pharmaceutical Science, Zhejiang University of Technology, Collaborative Innovation Center of Yangtze River Delta Region Green Pharmaceuticals, Innovation and Intelligence Base of Green pharmaceutical discipline, and Innovation Alliance of Zhejiang Marine Biological Products Industry Technology. It gathered chemists and scholars from Italy, US, German, Japan and institutions from Yangtze River Delta Region , and even project managers from industries and more than 200 students to join this conference.

Dickschat from Universität Bonn, Prof. Dionicio Siegel from University of California San Diego, Prof. Ikuro Abe from Tokyo University, Prof. Junzo Kamei from Hoshi University, Prof. Tan Renxiang from Nanjing University, Prof. Dengli from Westlake University, Prof. Guo Yuewei and Prof. Guo De’an from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Prof. Tang Gongli from Shanghai Institution of Organic Chemistry, Prof. Xu Xuewei from Second Institute of Oceanography, and Prof. Hu Jinfeng from Fudan University discussed the innovation of natural product and development and international cooperation of marine drug.

    Zheng Huajun (vice president of Zhejiang University of Technology), Zhang Xiaomin (deputy general director of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Association), Hu Yan (deputy general director of Jiangsu Pharmaceutical Association) and Yang Subei (deputy general director of Zhejiang Pharmaceutical Association) participated and gave speech at opening ceremony. Chair of committee, vice dean of School of Pharmaceutical, deputy general director of Innovation center of Green pharmacy Prof. Wang Hong hosted the opening ceremony.

    During the opening speech, Mr. Zheng Huajun expressed Zhejiang University of Technology had increased input of establishing first-class disciplines to meet the need of National policy and major criteria from regional government. This time, the conference satisfied the strategy of Yangtze region union and the innovated technology cooperated between Italy and China, which would furtherly strengthen the research communication of natural product and marine drug internationally. Meanwhile, it is bound to a positive improvement on establishing pharmaceutical discipline. 

    The summit is consisted of 24 plenary lectures and 10 lectures for youth scholars. The up-to-date content and active interactions not only provided new horizon and new thoughts for researchers, but also made a lot of opportunities to cooperate in depth. The best articles submitted by participants will be recommended and accepted by Marine Drugs (Q1 journal certified by JCR). Chief editor of Marine drugs, Prof. Orazio Taglialateia Scafati introduced the terms and conditions of 2019 international prize of marine drugs for youth scholars, moreover, he announced the 6th Sino-Italian Symposium on Bioactive Natural Products will be held in October 2020 at Padova, Italy. 

    At the opening ceremony, Innovation and Intelligence Base of Green pharmaceutical discipline, and Innovation Alliance of Zhejiang Marine Biological Products Industry Technology conferred overseas experts letters of appointment. Deputy general director of Zhejiang Alliance of Foreign Expert Agency issued letters to Prof. Giovanni B. ppendino、Orazio Taglialatela Scafati、Jeroen S. Dickschat、Dionicio Siegel、Enrico Marcanton and Daniele Cicer with vice president Zheng Huajun.

    By report, Sino-Italian Symposium on Bioactive Natural Products was initiated by Prof. Guo Yuewei and Prof. Guo De’an, and supported by University of Naples Federico II and Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry-CNR in Italy. The symposium mainly facilitated the communication of hot topic in marine natural product between Italy and China. Currently, with the deep interflow via this symposium, it has been grown as an worldwide platform, which is held in turns by scholars bilaterally.

    The section of article competition was addressed successfully. Prof. Giovanni B. Appendino from Università del Piemonte orientale, Prof. Jeroen S. Dickschat from Universität Bonn, Prof. Dionicio Siegel from University of California San Diego, Prof. Junzo Kamei from Hoshi University, and Prof. Guo Yuewei afforded as editorial committee. 24 undergraduates and postgraduates from Shanghai Ocean University, Jiangsu Ocean University and so on joined this section. Committee members offered 3 awards for first prize and 9 awards for second prize. Zhang Ya and Cheng Yang from Wenzhou University, and Xu Yilian from our school obtained first prize in article competition. Experts and win-out students took photograph at closing ceremony.
