Recently, the Ph.D. candidate Mr. Songze Ke published an research article entitled “Structural characterization and α-glucosidase inhibitory and antioxidant activities of fucoidans extracted from Saccharina japonica” on Chemistry & Biodiversity. This article mainly describes the structure, α-glucosidase inhibitory and antioxidant activities of four fucoidans isolated from Chinese traditional medicinal and edible algae, Saccharina japonica. Their structural characteristics were analyzed by modern spectroscopy techniques, and the anti-diabetes and antioxidant activities of fucoidans were tested by α-glucosidase inhibiting and DPPH scavenging assays. The present study highlight the structure and bioactivity diversity of Saccharina japonica-derived fucoidans.
